| These tin gifts
are made in Cornwall, south western county of England. Cornwall with its
bold and rocky coastline is a county full of prehistoric remains and many
ruined castles. |
| The tin industry
in Cornwall dates back to the Bronze Age. Cassiterite, the mineral ore
of tin was often found in large lustrous black crystals which the miners
named 'Diamond Tin'. |
| The tin used
in these gifts comes from a cargo of cornish tin ingots on board a ship
that sank in 1863. 138 years later the tin ingots were raised from the
shipwreck. They have been carefully cleaned and used to make this collection
of tin gifts. |
